Bobby Mackey's Music World

Wilder, Kentucky

Bobby Mackey's is a nightclub also referred to as a honky tonk purchased by country music singer Bobby Mackey in 1978. It is said to have a very shady past with its start as a slaughterhouse in 1850. It operated as a speak-easy then as a tavern/casino run by mobsters until the 1960's. In the 60's & 70's it changed hands multiple times but seemed to bring out the worst in people. It was often called the “bloody bucket” because of the amount of violence that occurred there. It is associated with the 1896 murder and decapitation of Pearl Bryan whose body was found in nearby Fort Thomas. It is also known for the spirit of Johanna, though unconfirmed, was thought to be a performer at the club during the 1940's who committed suicide upon learning of the death of her lover by the hands of her father.

In the 1980's, stories of the paranormal began to spread. The caretaker of the property, Carl Lawson, is certain he was overtaken by an evil spirit and Bobby Mackey's wife refused to step back on the property after being pushed almost causing a miscarriage. There are multiple reports of all types of paranormal activity including some that can become physical.

I believe the last time we visited was in 2002. During our investigation, we tried many different ways to get a spirit to interact with us, but to no avail. I know the crew from Ghost Adventures provoked the spirits there and it had long-lasting, devastating effects. It is an interesting, spooky place to investigate, but we had no experiences or evidence of the paranormal during our investigation.
